How we make our dog food

What is Freshtrusion?

Freshtrusion™ is a first in dry pet food manufacturing and is a trademarked technology. Freshtrusion™ allows more fresh ingredients to be used in dry dog foods than any other extrusion system in the world, including fresh meat, fresh vegetables, herbs and ‘botanicals’.

Why does Freshly Prepared increase digestibility?

Freshly prepared meats are gently cooked at 82 degrees C. This gentle cooking process protects the nutrients allowing your dog to have optimal nutrient bio-availability. Gently cooking the food means nutrients such as proteins stay intact, rather than them being denatured as they are at extremely high cooking temperatures. This means more proteins are readily available resulting in digestibility levels higher than 90% meaning less waste.

The Freshtrusion process allow sus to make our own oils

This process gives us the full traceability back to the source, from the farm, fishery or boat, along with super quality palatability success. These oils are not your usual high temperature rendered ‘pet food grade’ oils. They are so fresh, the laboratory testing finds little to no signs of oxidisation or ageing.

Why is the flavour fuller on low pressure cooking?

Using lower pressure cooking means that the nutrients are not as denatured compare to when high pressure cooking is used. This means the food retains a fuller flavour and provide a highly nutritious food for dogs.

Why is there sensory acceptance of   Freshly Prepared kibbles?

Our dogs all have individual needs. Sensory properties include natural aroma, texture and flavour. Freshly prepared meat has shown to reduce bitter taste in extruded dog food compare to when only dried meats are used (Koppel et al., 2014). Fresh ingredients are naturally more tasty and attractive to dogs.

What is bio-availability and why is it good for a dog?

Nutrient bio-availability is the amount of nutrients which are absorbed and used within the body. These nutrients are carried to the relevant tissues and made available for their specific use. Feeding high quality & highly digestible foods mean the body has more nutrients to use.

An overview of our dog food pyramid

What is needed to make up a complete and balance nutricious dog dinner

Many of us will have come across the food pyramid in school. However, we don’t often think about what the dog food pyramid looks like. A common phrase that you may hear is ‘complete and balanced’ dog food. But what does this mean?

Complete and Balanced Dog Food

This means the dog food provides your dog with the correct amounts of every single nutrient that they need with every meal. This type of food is designed to be fed as a dog’s sole diet.

Each dog has a different balanced diet unique to them, this can be due to changing life stages or a difference in the type of breed. For example, a senior dog has different needs to puppies and a Great Dane will have differing nutritional requirements to a Pug.

To ensure a dog has a healthy diet, there are six important nutrients that a dog should consume:

Vitamins

Vitamins are responsible for a vast range of functions within the dog’s body such as bone development, eye function, maintenance of cell structure and releasing energy from nutrients. Our recipes contain a blend of nutritiously beneficial superfoods that provide great sources of vitamins to help a dog’s general health and wellbeing.

Palatants

Palatants play an essential role in a dog’s diet. This is slightly different from everything else in the pyramid as it predominantly helps to make the food taste great for the dog. Our recipes are made with the finest freshly prepared ingredients to ensure that a dog is provided with fantastic nutritional benefits but also make sure they love the taste of their food.

Minerals

Minerals are also key for a dog’s health as it contributes to maintaining healthy bones, as well as muscle, cell and nerve function. Similar to vitamins our recipes contain a blend of nutritiously beneficial superfoods to help support a dog’s general health and wellbeing.

Fat

Fat is a fantastic source of energy and enhances the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids such as Omega 3 and Omega 6. These essential nutrients help dog’s to maintain healthy skin and coat, promote the immune system, whilst also aiding in the development of healthy joints, brain and vision. Our Grain Free recipes are formulated with Omega 3 Supplement to help support healthy skin and coat.

Protein

Protein and amino acids are the building blocks to a dog’s body that are responsible for forming new skin cells, growing hair, building muscle tissue and much more. Protein also functions as enzymes, hormones and antibodies. Our recipes contains freshly prepared meats that are gently cooked at a circa 82 degrees Celsius. This gentle cooking process protects the nutrients and therefore allows the pet to have optimal nutrient bio-availability.

Carbohydrates

This is an efficient source of glucose for energy, a source of heat for the body and can be stored as glycogen. This is also essential for a dog as it helps to control the weight of a dog. Our Grain Free recipes have been formulated to contain sweet potato as the main carbohydrate source. Sweet potato is an excellent alternative carbohydrate that provides dietary fibre to help support a healthy digestive system and good stool formation.
